Two Medical Transport Services
Great Falls is serviced by two air medical transport services: Mercy Flight and Angel Flight. Mercy Flight taking off from Great Falls International Airport
Mercy Flight
MERCY FLIGHT/MED FLIGHT - Are two separate aircrafts. Mercy Flight is the helicopter operations and Med Flight is an airplane located at the airport. These aircrafts are staffed 24-hours per day through the emergency room at the hospital. Emergency services are provided within a 200-mile radius of Great Falls. The radius extends as far as Glacier Park, Lincoln, Butte, Bozeman, Lewistown, the Canadian border and Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. Three specialized teams respond to the medical needs within this area and centralized through Benefis Hospital's Emergency Room.
The first team address adult and pediatric emergency situations. These situations range from accidents, emergency health risks and hospital-to-hospital care. The second team responds to neonatal calls for high-risk newborn babies. The third team is a perinatal team that responds to mothers that are going into premature labor and are at risk.
During 2001 these two aircraft provided 759 flights averaging 2 flights per day.
